Seward, Alaska
I wanted to see what Alaska was like during the
winter months -- so I went in March. It was what they refer to as
break-up which means that everything was pretty much mud until the snow
covered it up. I thought the snow was beautiful and the mountains
surrounding anchorage were so wonderful covered with snow.
Pictured is the Sea Life Center in Seward.
These Tufted Puffins ("Toasted Muffins" to L.J.) swim 20 ft underwater
to eat -- and the tank I am standing in front of has an underwater viewing
area where you can watch them dive -- way cool. |

My friend L.J. pretty much drove me around Alaska
while I was there -- thank you L.J. I want to make it back to Seward
in warmer weather so I can take a trip to see the Kenai Fjords -- where
you can see glaciers calving into the ocean. |

Dog sledding in Girdwood
Girdwood is a small town about 30 minutes south
of Anchorage. The dog sled team consisted of 8 dogs and the tour
lasted 1 hour. |
Dog sledding
Im actually in this picture. It snowed
on the trip and the surroundings were beautiful. I must say that
the smell did get to me a bit. I did get to stand up on the
runners for part of the trip. |

Hope, Alaska
The mountains pictured are the Chugach Mnts and
you can imagine the highway towards the base of them that takes you to
Anchorage. I actually went up them to flat top to play in the snow
one day. The picture also shows the normally soggy mud flats frozen.
I walked out to the edge and looked at the water -- this is impossible
in the Summer as the mud will trap you until the tides (which are extreme)
come in to drown you. |
